About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity to join us as Technical Policy Advisor for the next business planning cycle – PR24. Reporting into the Water Strategic Planning team you will be responsible for supporting development of the water business plan.

PR24 promises to be an interesting and important price review for both NWL and the wider water sector with many new economic and financial challenges. Some of the key challenges PR24 will seek to tackle include climate change and the need for the sector to achieve ‘net zero’ carbon emissions, significant ambitions to improve the natural environment in line with customer and stakeholder expectations and further steps to improve the resilience of essential water and wastewater services for customers.

The role will involve supporting identification of asset needs, evaluating these needs developing options and costing interventions.  You will also support optimisation of the business plan to deliver on our strategic objectives, development of well evidenced business cases and drafting the business plan technical content.

About us & PR24

Northumbrian Water (NWL) is a high-performing Water and Sewerage company serving customers in both the North East of England and Essex and Suffolk regions. In 2020 the business benchmarked at the upper quartile amongst companies in England and Wales for efficiency with strong performance in all three services – water, wastewater and retail services. At the same time, we enjoyed high-levels of customer trust and our service performance was strong. Most of our service performance metrics were above the sector average, and many of them are at the upper quartile level.  For interruptions to supply and environmental pollutions, we were the leading company in the sector in 2020-21. We have a single owner, CK Infrastructure, one of the largest private infrastructure investors in the world and the ability to work with and learn from many other leading utilities in the UK through that relationship.

Every five years, Northumbrian Water sets out a business plan incorporating the ambitions it seeks to deliver for customers and the environment, the associated costs of maintaining and improving our asset base and services, and the implications for customer bills – all of which needs to be aligned with customer and stakeholder expectations.
