Nature Water, a new multidisciplinary journal from Nature Research, will publish the most significant research that addresses the challenges of water availability, water and wastewater treatment, water pollution remediation, water economics, management, governance and policy.
We are looking to recruit Associate or Senior editors for the journal, across natural sciences (primarily Earth and environmental science), engineering (including environmental, civil, chemical and materials) and social sciences (economy, human geography and sociology).
Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant discipline, and preferably postdoctoral experience, with a strong research record.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the team that will help shape and launch a new academic journal, to present a fully cross-disciplinary picture of water research. The broad range of topics and disciplines to be covered includes: water resources hydrology and climate change effects, water and wastewater treatment, desalination, analysis of contaminants, pollution control and remediation, water for agriculture and food production, ecotoxicology, water quality sensing, urban water management, stormwater management, climate resilient infrastructure, water for off-the-grid points of use, sanitation, water effects on public health, water economics and cost analysis, environmental psychology and behaviour, water availability and equality, water governance, policy relevant water research.
Nature Water will be part of a dynamic editorial and publishing environment that also includes Nature, Nature Climate Change, Nature Energy, Nature Plants, Nature Food and Nature Sustainability. The successful candidates will work closely with the Chief Editor and the Nature Water editorial team on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and peer review, the commissioning and editing of Reviews and News & Views articles, and also writing for the journal.
These are demanding and intellectually stimulating positions. Broad scientific knowledge and training, excellent literary skills, the ability to absorb new areas of research, and a keen interest in the practice and communication of science are all required. Applicants should be dynamic, outgoing and have excellent interpersonal skills. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the scientific community through laboratory visits and international conferences — willingness to travel is essential.
