Hamilton, New Zealand 🇳🇿

We want more good people to come and do great things with us.

We love where we live. That’s why we work so hard to look after our region and the people who live and work in the Waikato region.

Customers sit at the heart of everything we do, and all staff have an important role to play in the delivery of exceptional customer service.

Our work is as diverse as the region we care for; from the tip of the Coromandel Peninsula to the slopes of Ruapehu. We’ve got ambitious goals and there are some tricky issues, but that’s what makes it so interesting.

Do you want to advance your career in environmental resource management? How about working on challenging projects which set the standard for environmental policy development in New Zealand, working with a dynamic, multicultural team full of ideas and enthusiasm.

There is an exciting opportunity to join our Water Policy team in the Waikato Regional Council. We are looking for a Policy Advisor or Graduate Policy Advisor to support the team work on significant policy challenges that make a difference across the region, and to New Zealand.

This role represents a unique opportunity to grow and develop your career within a leading organisation, with the Council embarking on large scale regional plan changes around water management. The Council is supporting a significant programme of work that will ensure it remains a leader in the implementation of the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management. It is a great time to get involved.

The successful candidates will enjoy:

  • The satisfaction of having a hand in shaping the future of the Waikato Region.
  • A supportive working environment with flexible working arrangements.
  • Strong support for continuing professional development.
  • Opportunities to work with industry-leading experts in their fields.
  • An organisation which incorporates principles of the Treaty of Waitangi in its work environment and practices.

You will have a sound understanding of environmental resource management issues, experience in the RMA planning processes, and a relevant tertiary qualification. You will also have strong writing and communications skills and the ability to fit into a team working in a dynamic project environment. If this sounds like you please get in touch.

Looking for flexible ways of working options, at Waikato Regional Council we are committed to working more creatively to ‘get work done’ in a way that is of mutual benefit to you, the organisation and our communities.
