The Bureau of Meteorology (Bureau) is seeking a Customer Lead to support its engagement with Commonwealth water agencies (Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment, the Murray–Darling Basin Authority and the Commonwealth Environmental Water Office), contribute to the administration of the Water Regulations 2008, maintain and extend relationships with organisations that provide water data to the Bureau, develop and promote standardised water information practices, and other projects and initiatives as required.

A key player in improving water management in Australia, the Bureau is responsible for collecting water data from across the country and producing information products, insights, models and forecasts to inform decision makers. The Bureau’s customers include federal, state, territory and local governments; urban and rural water utilities; industry; researchers; consultants and individual water users.

We are seeking a strategic leader and communicator with a passion for water and/or data management who will build, manage and leverage customer relationships to maximise the Bureau’s value and impact in the Australian water sector. They will be required to deeply understand customer needs and coordinate customer services that utilise the Bureau’s extensive weather, water and climate capabilities. The successful candidates will be highly self-motivated, agile and be able to work within a team and with internal stakeholders across the Bureau. The successful candidate will also be required to assist in the administration of the Water Regulations 2008.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are prerequisites for this job. Professional experience in Commonwealth water agencies, state government water agencies, or other water sector organisations and businesses would be highly valued. Experience in administering regulation; ability to interpret and apply legislation; and knowledge of water data standards and data sharing would be highly desirable.

The position can be performed in any Bureau capital city office with some interstate travel required.
