About the role

Due to the growing workload within the remote sensing hydrographic survey team, and significant work on the books for 2021 & 2022, we are seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual to join our team. The role will be a mix of leading field surveys and office-based duties to play a key role in the delivery of our hydrographic survey projects.

This role is open to both Senior Scientist & Scientist grade applications.

Duties for the Senior Scientist grade will include:

  • Leading hydrographic field survey team
  • Processing of survey data
  • Compile survey report
  • Tender writing

The successful applicant will report into the Principal Hydrographic Scientist and will be expected to take on the day to day management and oversee technical duties for the hydrographic based projects run out of the remote sensing team.

Duties for the scientist grade will include:

  • Undertaking field surveys
  • Assist with processing of survey data
  • Assist with survey reporting
  • Ongoing maintenance of survey equipment

The successful applicant will report into the Hydrographic Principal and will be expected to take on the day to day technical duties for many of the hydrographic based projects run out of the remote sensing team.

About you

Senior Hydrographic Scientist

You will ideally have a background in environmental science and an understanding / working knowledge of leading, conducting and managing field surveys. You will be technically minded and competent to work through technical issues with both survey hardware and software as well as being able to manage projects from start to finish. 

Ideally you will be competent in the following:

  • Experience of leading a field survey team (ideally) for hydrographic survey
  • Experience of working on water including reservoirs, lakes rivers and other waterbodies
  • Experience of using hydrographic software (HYPACK)
  • Experience with survey grade GPS (base and rover and network rover applications) and total station
  • GIS and other geospatial software
  • Field survey management
  • Contributing to reports
  • Contributing to tenders

Competency / certification in the following would also be desirable:

  • RYA Powerboat Level 2
  • First Aid
  • Flood Water Awareness
  • Water hygiene card
  • Experience in 4 x 4 off road driving
  • CSCS Card
  • Experience of using remote / autonomous operated surface vessel 

Hydrographic Scientist

You will ideally have a background in environmental science and specifically a working knowledge of conducting hydrographic survey. You will be technically minded and competent to work through technical issues with both survey hardware and software as well as being able to manage projects from start to finish. Ideally you will be competent in the following:

  • Working as part of a field survey team
  • Experience of working on reservoirs (including water supply reservoirs) and other waterbodies
  • Experience of using hydrographic software
  • Experience with survey grade GPS (base and rover and network rover applications) and total station
  • GIS

Competency in the following would also be desirable:

  • Experience of using Surfer software
  • Processing of hydrographic data to produce:
    • Bathymetric datasets in 2D contour and 3D surface models
    • Processing of ADCP data
  • Marketing APEM services to existing and potential new clients
  • CSCS card
