Summary

This position is located on the Angeles National Forest in Arcadia, CA.

The incumbent serves as a technical assistant in the performance of a variety of hydrology tasks, either as a crew member or individual worker.

Responsibilities

  • Support hydrologists, civil engineers, and other professionals engaged in scientific studies for water resource and land management planning and design.
  • Compile and analyze hydrologic or data on physical processes for use in studies or reports for management actions.
  • Collect data on physical features and spatial data for input into digital databases, and inform management actions.
  • Modify approaches to accommodate variable conditions and to recommend minor changes to improve work processes or quality of results.
  • Perform all maintenance necessary to insure optimal operation of all equipment.
  • Prepare correspondence relating to the request for or transmittal of hydrologic data, or any other matters relating to the instrumentation programs.

Travel Required: Occasional travel – To attend training and/or meetings. Also, project related work.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-07: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: Performed hydrologic technician work such as prepare, analyze, chart, annotate forms, and complete hydrographs; Assisted in the performance of a variety of hydrology tasks such as conducting, monitoring, coordinating, and controlling various phases of data collection and analysis projects or operations; Used topographic maps and construction plans to determine watershed drainage boundaries, flow paths, elevation area relationships, stream channel cross-sections, and basin hydrologic parameters.
OR
One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as: (such as: engineering, construction drafting, surveying, physical science, hydrology, ecology, geology, or geomorphology);
OR
Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
