This is an important position in the Water Resources Management department to assist in the long-range planning of water supply for the Austin metropolitan area and the lower Colorado River basin. The successful candidate will apply scientific principles and statistical methods to the understanding, interpretation, and modeling of surface water resources and use models to estimate surface water supply under a variety of conditions. This position assists in the modeling and identification of the interrelationship of water resources and the environment as affecting LCRA and applies mathematical and computer models to estimate impacts and effects. This includes operating models that include water rights, biological and environmental needs for water, and hydrology. This position maintains and operates water supply models which include complex interactions of water rights constraints, environmental criteria, and operational approaches.

You will be trusted to:

– Apply computer models to estimate surface water supply availability, instream flows, and lake operations.
– Use water supply models to estimate benefits and impacts of various water supply management alternatives and potential new supply projects.
– Develop summary presentations of technical material to assist and advise LCRA management.
– Maintain computer models with latest information from various regulatory and resources agencies, including TCEQ, TWDB, TPWD, and others.
– Participate in outside advisory and work groups focused on the use and improvement of water supply models and associated applications.
– Participate in cross-departmental sharing of knowledge and, when appropriate, cross-departmental developmental assignments.
Interact with LCRA Hydromet and River Operations Center staff.

You qualify with:

– Four or more years of experience in hydrologic analysis, water supply, and environmental modeling. A degree(s) in chemistry, biology, hydrology, microbiology, environmental science, physical sciences, engineering, or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
– Texas driver’s license
