The Role
This is an opportunity for a Senior Water Scientist to join our successful, growing environmental team in the West (Bristol, Cardiff & Winchester). 

Our water environment team is rapidly growing in capability and influence following recent successes such as the award-winning Keyn Glas A30 landscape-scale restoration and enhancement project which had catchment management as a core element. Click here to find out more information.

We have a strong pipeline of similarly creative and impactful work and need an experienced water scientist to help shape these projects and deliver tangible outcomes for the water environment.
Requirements and skills
Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Degree and/or masters in geography, water science, hydrology or related topic
  • Chartered status with CIWEM or similar
  • Significant Consultancy experience in a water science role, with experience across both assessment and design projects. Experience on major infrastructure and habitat creation projects.
  •  Experience of drafting Environmental Statement water topic chapters and Water Framework Directive compliance assessments
  •  Ability to scope and specify requirements for field investigations and monitoring
  • Track record of working with designers on large infrastructure projects, particularly within the water sector;
  • Track record of technical team leadership, review and quality assurance of deliverables
  • Track record of package management, operating to time, budget and quality constraints
  • Capacity to work in a multi-disciplinary environment with other groups (e.g. Planning, Transport and Project Management);
  • Ability to contribute to the design of environmental enhancements to benefit the water environment
  • Experience in business development: promotion, marketing and bid preparation;
  • Capable of supporting the delivery of a challenging and varying workload which can change at short notice;
  • Experience of maintaining and developing client relationships
  • Experience of line management and/or mentoring roles
  • Support to effective project delivery and within budget and programmes assigned to specific area of work
  • Capable of explaining complex processes and highly technical subject matters in a way that is understandable – using plain English.
  • Capable of identifying issues or risks and communicating these to the senior project team that affect the delivery of a project

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

  • Support to delivery of projects securing consent under the provision of the Planning Act 2008
  • Experience of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and HEWRAT tool
  • Skills and experience using GIS
  • Likely to have a specialism across geomorphology, water quality, hydrology
  • Skills and experience in Natural Flood Management and associated technical areas
  • Digital skills – used of advanced data analysis or presentation techniques or packages
