INE/WSA is looking for an active graduate student (Master or Ph.D.) with Environment/Natural Resources Management, Environmental Engineering/Economics, Geographical Sciences, Climate Science, or related fields to be hired as a Winter Intern under the Consultant modality.
INE/WSA has developed several analytical and knowledge products to support robust decision making, such as Hydro-BID, to guide water and adaptation planning in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region.
The team’s mission:
INE/WSA is committed to expanding access to quality services for low-income and vulnerable populations. We promote comprehensive and sustainable solutions by improving sector governance and financial sustainability and incorporating the concept of water security in the sector. We produce and disseminate knowledge to assess needs and priorities, share practices, support clients, and contribute to an evidence-based approach to lending.
What you’ll do:
- Assist in the development and maintenance of strategic analytical and modeling products.
- Conduct research on existing data and information as needed to support the development of specific knowledge applied research or operational products.
- Support the team in data acquisition and processing by applying specific software and/or coding tools along with the geospatial (e.g., GIS) and statistical analytical methods/software.
- Prepare the data for presentation purposes (reports, presentations, maps, etc.)
- Assist the preparation and implementation of technical cooperation, loan projects, and workshops (e.g., drafting agendas, coordination, logistic, etc.)
What you’ll need: To be part of the Program you need all the following requirements:
Citizenship: Being a national of an IDB member country.
Education: A master’s degree or Ph.D. student, having 50% of the coursework approved in Environment/Natural Resources Management, Environmental Engineering/Economics, Geographical Sciences, Climate Science, or related fields in an accredited University. The graduation date cannot be prior to March 15, 2022.
Languages: Be proficient in English and preferably with practical knowledge of one of the Bank’s additional official languages (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, or French).
Age: Be between 21 and 33 years of age as of the starting date of the internship.
Technical Skills: Advanced skills in Microsoft programs as well as GIS programs and related data management computer programs are required.
Soft Skills: Grate teammate, inclusive, innovative, creative, client-centered, results-driven, with strong communication skills.
Consanguinity: Not have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB Group.
The first contract at the IDB Group: Be a first-time participant in our Internship Program and do not have been a former staff member, Complementary Workforce (“CW”), contractor, or have previously provided services to the Bank or the Corporation through a contractor or under any other contractual modality.
In addition, be aware that applicants will be disqualified if:
- Apply to more than three (3) vacancies in the 2022 Winter Internship Program for IDB, IDB Lab, and IDB Invest.
- Do not submit academic transcripts as an attachment to the application, demonstrating a minimum of 50% of coursework completion and has been issued within the last 3 months (valid for graduate students only)

About the HQ Summer/Winter Internship Program: It is a competitive paid opportunity, based in HQ. It provides practical experience for university students to learn about development work and corporate management of the Bank, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job learning.
