Job Description and Duties

The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) has implemented the requirement that all state employees attest to their vaccination status. Employees are required to indicate whether they are vaccinated, unvaccinated, or if they choose not to disclose their vaccination status. As an additional health and safety standard to protect the state workforce and the public it serves, CalHR is also implementing COVID-19 testing of all state employees working on site (including field sites) if they are unvaccinated, vaccinated but choose not to provide documentation, or choosing not to disclose their vaccination status. Any employee seeking exemption from COVID-19 testing or wearing a face covering must provide evidence of vaccination. Most positions at the Water Boards might be eligible for telework and will require in-person attendance based on operation needs of the position.

The San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board has an opening for two permanent, full-time Engineering Geologist positions in the Toxics Cleanup Division.

The positions are located at 1515 Clay Street, Suite 1400, Oakland, CA 94612.

Duties:

Under the close supervision of a Senior Engineering Geologist in the Toxics Cleanup Division, the incumbent will manage regulatory oversight of investigation and remediation projects, perform geology, hydrogeology, and other technical work, and implement State environmental laws and programs.

Incumbent will conduct fundamental project management by establishing, adapting, and meeting milestones and completion dates for assigned tasks and projects.

Incumbent will communicate interpersonally, in writing, and make presentations. Incumbent will conduct these forms of communication routinely via email, Board reports, public notices, project correspondence and/or in meetings with peers, supervisors, executive officers, and external stakeholders. Incumbent will routinely provide status of tasks or projects, share technical or regulatory information, seek input, or facilitate and support decisions.

Incumbent will work collaboratively in groups internally and with external stakeholders to develop technical, regulatory, and procedural recommendations for projects or issues related to their expertise and assignments.

Desirable Qualifications

Knowledge or Experience:

Licensure:

  • Registered California Professional Geologist is desired but not required

  • Environmental justice issues
  • Engineering, water resources management, and soil/sediment science

Ability to:
