The Oklahoma Water Survey within the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science at the University of Oklahoma seeks to hire a post-doctoral research fellow in the area of multidisciplinary water quality research. The primary responsibilities for this position will be to develop innovative solutions and analyses for water quality challenges and to produce high-quality publications that will advance water science and technology. The position is available immediately and will be an initial 12-month appointment with the possibility of extension pending performance and availability of funding for a second year.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a team of academic scientists and engineers to develop innovative approaches and solutions to a variety of water challenges at local, regional, and international scales
- Independently develop water quality proposals relevant to the Oklahoma Water Survey priorities in the fields of water quality and wastewater-based epidemiology
- Produce high-quality scientific and technical journal articles, conference papers and presentations, reports, and graphics.
The successful candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Civil, Biological, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field in the hydrological sciences. Candidates should have refereed journal articles in the areas of water quality and experience writing research grants and reviewing publications. Good communication skills (clear written and spoken English) and ability to participate in and coordinate collaborative research is required.
The preferred candidate will have experience in transport and fate of pollutants in surface waters (e.g. stormwater, rivers), low impact development, and/or wastewater-based epidemiology (surveillance of chemicals and pathogens, such as SARS-CoV-2, in wastewater). The candidate will be able to test relevant hypotheses, generate innovative solutions to novel water problems, and effectively communicate results through refereed publications, presentations and meetings. A strong understanding of laboratory and statistical analysis methods and tools used for water quality studies is desired. Overseeing field installation of water monitoring instrumentation such as, but not limited to, multi-parameter sondes, autosamplers, and flow meters will be beneficial. The project may involve significant interaction with local, regional, or international experts and stakeholders, therefore, good interpersonal skills are preferred.
