Assistant Professor (Hydrogeology/Groundwater Modeling)
The Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences at Northern Illinois University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August, 2019. We seek a candidate with research and teaching interests in the field of hydrogeology, and preferably with expertise in groundwater modeling and field methods. We expect the successful candidate to establish and maintain an externally funded research program, and to teach at all levels, including assisting with our summer environmental field methods course. We seek faculty and staff who embrace NIU’s mission of providing opportunity to a diverse student body by providing them with access to high quality education and hands-on involvement in research and community engagement.
Departmental facilities include a truck-mounted Geoprobe™ 6600, an experimental and teaching well field site, surface and borehole geophysical instruments, field hydrogeological equipment, and extensive geochemical/analytical facilities. The department currently has 9 faculty members whose broad research interests are described on our website (www.niu.edu/geology); potential for collaboration exists in numerous areas, including the role of fluids in the formation of ore deposits, energy resources, hydro-geophysics, groundwater geochemistry and geomicrobiology, and climate change and glacial studies. Collaborative opportunities outside of the department include NIU’s interdisciplinary Institute for the Study for the Environment, Sustainability and Energy (www.niu.edu/ese), the USGS-Illinois-Iowa Water Science Center, Argonne and Fermi National Laboratories, Illinois State Water Survey, and the Illinois EPA.
