Research assistant (m/f/d) in a project on urban water resource management

That awaits you

  • Collaboration in the BMBF-funded project PolyUrbanWaters, with the aim of sustainably optimising water management in the partner cities Sleman (Indonesia), Kratié (Cambodia) and Sam Neua (Laos)
  • Acquisition, organisation, analysis and interpretation of data related to urban water resources as well as nature-based and hybrid infrastructure systems
  • Literature research on the research questions
  • Preparation of studies to determine the baseline situations in the partner cities
  • Researching future scenarios for water-sensitive urban development, with a focus on implementing nature based solutions
  • Contributing to the design of transformation pathways for water-sensitive urban development
  • Publication of scientific results in academic journals and presentations at international conferences
  • Supervision of student work related to the project
  • Preparation of project reports
  • Network management with international partners
  • Data collection on site

Your skills

  • University degree (master’s level) in engineering or natural sciences, preferably in water resources management; PhD desirable
  • Expertise in urban water resources management with a relevant focus (e.g. nature-based/hybrid solutions, water resources planning, urban water resources modelling)
  • Experience in working with spatial data, geodatabases and remote sensing data
  • strong skills in scientific work
  • Knowledge in water resources management including analysis of water quality and quantity data desirable
  • Expertise in the role of ecosystem services and nature-based solutions in future-oriented water resource management is an advantage
  • ideally knowledge of socio-ecological systems and holistic water research and management approaches in urban contexts
  • Willingness to spend several 2-3 week research visits in the partner cities
  • very good knowledge of English ideally good knowledge of German
  • strong communication skills
