Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the areas of Environmental Engineering or Water Resources Engineering. We welcome applications from highly qualified individuals with a passion for teaching and research across all areas of specialization within these areas and who would complement existing strengths of the University. The successful candidate is expected to build an exceptional record of accomplishment including an externally-funded research program, impactful scholarship, effective mentorship of students from diverse backgrounds, and effective and inclusive teaching.

The new faculty member will join other members of the faculty in offering and supporting current degree programs and supporting a new BS degree program in Environmental Engineering, currently in the planning stages. The department has 22 tenure-line faculty members and 3 non-tenured full-time teaching faculty and offers baccalaureate, masters, and PhD degrees with concentrations in construction, environmental, geotechnical and materials, structures, transportation, and water resources engineering. The department ranks in the top 30 US institutions in scholarly publications and citations per faculty member according to Academic Analytics. We welcome applicants who can leverage the wealth of assembled expertise in related fields across the UT systems and could collaborate with researchers at nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory through the newly-formed University of Tennessee Oak Ridge Innovation Institute and through a number of multidisciplinary centers including the Institute for a Secure and Sustainable Environment, the Tennessee Water Resources Research Center, the Center for Environmental Biotechnology, the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy, and the Center for Transportation Research. Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or closely related field at the time the position is filled
  • Research and teaching interests in any area of Environmental Engineering or Water Resources Engineering
  • Demonstrated record of publishing in high quality academic journals
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Eligibility to work in the US
  • Registration as a professional engineer or ability to become registered is considered as beneficial, but not required
