Job DescriptionThe Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University seeks a part-time instructor to teach two 3-credit online synchronous and asynchronous courses through University College: GEO 155-The Natural Environment, during the 8 Week I session, meets January 18, 2022 through March 11, 2022.GEO 316- River Environments, during the 8 Week II Session, meets March 14, 2022 through May 5, 2022.GEO 155 Course Description: This course examines major systems within our natural environment: climate; vegetation; soils; hydrology (water); and landforms. The processes and environmental interactions that shape these systems will be stressed, and the varying processes and forms found in different environments on the earth will be examined. The course looks into explaining the distribution of natural features around the earth. Attention is given to the problems that can arise in the interaction between human activity and the “natural systems” that function in these environments.

GEO 316 Course Description: This course intends to provide from the process-based perspective a broad introduction to rivers and their environments. In addition to the description of concepts and processes, the course also focuses on the cause-effect relationships between various landforms in river environments and the corresponding processes that create these landforms. Beginning with the introduction of rivers and river environments, the course illustrates a variety of geomorphic processes that operate and the landforms they produce both on hillslope and in stream channels, followed by discussion on human impact on and interaction with river environments.
QualificationsABD or higher in Geography, with prior university teaching experience.

ResponsibilitiesDeliver existing content that has already been developed. 
Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.  
Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours. 
Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course. 
Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class. 
Submitting final grades according to University regulations. 
Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner. 
Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
