PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The global COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of effective infection prevention and control (IPC) within healthcare facilities to mitigate risks of transmission among patients and healthcare staff. UNICEF is looking for a motivated national from Samoa for the position of WASH Officer in the Apia office. The WASH officer will provide dedicated technical expertise to support the detailed planning and implementation of the immediate and critical need for improved Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) in Health Care Facilities as a key element of COVID-19 response in support of Infection and Preventions Control measures.

At the same time, the WASH Officer provides professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the WASH programme , through the application of theoretical and practical technical skills in researching, collecting, analyzing data and presenting programme information while learning organizational rules, regulations and procedures to support the development, implementation and monitoring of the WASH programme results.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

A university degree in one of the following fields is required:  public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, sanitary engineering, or another relevant technical field.

Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree is a strong asset.

DEVELOPMENTAL:  a minimum of one year of professional experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required.

A good understanding of national government WASH-related policies plans and strategies, and institutional arrangements is required.

Knowledge of the latest guidance and best practices for WASH programming in the Pacific context especially WASH in health care facilities will be an asset.
