The duties listed are at the full performance level GS-09
– Obtains measurements of water levels in reservoirs, streams, canals and precipitation gages.
– Determines shift adjustments and notes effects of ice, moss, backwater, etc. on measurements.
– Prepares data reports on flood stage and discharge, canal diversions, and reservoir regulations.
– Operates, maintains and repairs stream gaging equipment and water-level recorders at stream gaging stations and weather stations
Travel Required: Occasional travel – You may be expected to travel for this position.

Promotion Potential: 9 – The promotion potential of this position is GS-09. However, this position may be filled at a lower-grade. Approved subsequent promotion(s) may be made without further competition. Promotion up to the GS-09 level is neither guaranteed nor automatic.

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the education and/or specialized experience requirement – this information must be clearly supported in the resume. Specialized experience may include work as a technician or aid in engineering, earth, physical, or natural science, forestry, soil conservation, or surveying; trades or crafts work in maintenance or construction of facilities or equipment related to hydrology; drafting; or construction estimating if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position.
To qualify at the GS-07, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-06 level in federal service having demonstrated experience . You could otherwise qualify on the basis of Education having one full year of graduate education, if directly related to the work of this position. You may combine specialized experience and education to meet the minimum qualifications.
Specialized experience is defined as: obtaining flow measurements with current meters and measurement of water levels in two of the following locations (reservoirs, streams, canals, or precipitation gauges).
To qualify at the GS-08, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-07 level in federal service having demonstrated experience . You could otherwise qualify on the basis of Education having 1 1/2 years of graduate education, if directly related to the work of this position. You may combine specialized experience and education to meet the minimum qualifications.
Specialized experience is defined as: computing and processing data used to track and forecast river stages; calculate sediment loads, and determine levels of pollution; or developing climatological and hydrologic data.
To qualify at the GS-09, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-08 level in federal service having demonstrated experience . You could otherwise qualify on the basis of Education having 2 years of graduate education or a master’s degree directly related to the work of the position. You may combine specialized experience and education to meet the minimum qualifications.
Specialized experience is defined as: computing and compiling hydrographic data and preparing rating tables and data report on flood stage and discharge, canal diversions and reservoir regulation.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
