Water Resources Engineer

The successful candidate will join the water resources management team in Zutari, will be based in Cape Town, South Africa and will typically be involved with multidisciplinary water-related studies from national and regional planning studies to individual water infrastructure project feasibility studies. He/she will be technically competent in the integrated water resources planning and management field, with demonstrated knowledge and use of appropriate software applications. The position requires working collaboratively within multidisciplinary and culturally diverse teams. He/she will have excellent communication skills (verbal and written), will be able to work under pressure and consistently deliver work of outstanding quality. The candidate will demonstrate effective planning and time management skills, will be able to manage junior staff, will have strong inter-personal and networking, business development and project management skills. Familiarity with relevant quality management systems in a consulting environment will be an advantage. Short-term project visits to African countries might be required.

Role Responsibilities

  • Water resources modelling and analysis

  • Integrated water resources planning and management/catchment management

  • Masterplanning and network analysis/water conservation and demand management

  • Flood hydrology/flood risk and hazard assessments

  • Understanding the social and economic aspects of water resources

  • Climate change analysis/sustainability

  • Hydraulic design of drainage structures

  • Spatial analysis associated with integrated water resources planning and management

  • Stakeholder engagement/facilitation of workshops

  • Preparation of proposals and technical report writing
