The Water Group within the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) is currently seeking to appoint a Director, Aboriginal Water (Identified) to lead a new function within the Water Group’s Strategy Division, and bring an enhanced and dedicated focus to improving water outcomes for First Nations people in NSW.

This is an Aboriginal Identified role where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977).

About You

If you are a strategic thinker and have demonstrated experience in leading and developing strategic programs and change, this role is for you!

Heavily focussed on forming strategic partnerships with Aboriginal people and communities across NSW, you will have exceptional communication and relationship skills, with the proven ability to work collaboratively and ensure the effective development of policy, programs and legislative options to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people. You will have strong people management skills, encouraging cross-organisational coordination as well as representing the leadership team and the DPIE cluster, and demonstrated project management and delivery skills. Previous experience within Government is also desirable.

You will lead delivery of commitments in the NSW Water Strategy including development of an Aboriginal Water Strategy, and DPIE Water’s work under the Closing the Gap National Agreement.

Essential Requirements

  • Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community as such. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1997.
