Duties and Responsibilities

Organizational Setting

The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment". Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UN Environment's Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition.

The consultant will work from home and reports to the Programme Management Officer, UN Environment / Ecosystems Division / Poverty-Environment Initiative.

The Poverty-Environment Initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is a global programme that supportscountry-led efforts to put pro-poor, pro-environment objectives into the heart of government by mainstreaming poverty-environment objectives into national development and sub-national development planning, from policymaking to budgeting, implementation and monitoring.

1. Purpose (justification for request)
Request was made by the project Co-directors that we need an outside expertise for the drafting of the Lessons learnt section of the Final Global Project Report and separate Lessons learnt publication who has Technical Advisory Group (TAG) experience.

1.1 Explain the requirement for a consultant / individual (Box 1(a) of P.104/A):

We need a Consultant to draft sections of the Poverty-Environment Initiative Global Project Report (2013-2018) and the Poverty Environment Initiative Lessons Learnt publication which are planned to be produced in between October and December 2018.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree in Environmental Studies and or related areas.
Experience: A minimum of 10-years’ experience with Poverty-Environment mainstreaming, ideally UN
Environment/UNDP experience in Project Document development.
Good knowledge of Poverty-Environment Mainstreaming
Language: Fluency in written and oral English is required
