WASH United seeks a highly motivated individual with exceptional leadership skills for the position of Managing Director of our Kenyan entity WASH United Africa Ltd.

WASH United is an international social impact organisation headquartered in Germany, with operations in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. We exist to help achieve safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) for all people by 2030. To do so, WASH United focuses on innovative WASH advocacy, behaviour change trainings, and the promotion of the human rights to water and sanitation.

To be successful, you will need to have senior level experience in organizational management, fundraising and partnership management, combined with the ability to operate in a fast-changing work environment.

Key responsibilities

  • External relations & fundraising
    • Represent WASH United Africa in Kenya, in the region and internationally
    • Lead overall fundraising for WASH United Africa
    • Establish and further strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders in the region, including WASH sector partners, governments and donors
  • Management, administration & team leadership
    • In close coordination with the Board, oversee WASH United Africa’s work across the region, ensuring that the organization achieves its strategic objectives
    • Develop and oversee the implementation of the annual budget and operational plan
    • Manage key grants and provide financial oversight and reporting
    • Manage WASH United Africa’s team of 3-5 staff, including developing the capacity of existing team members and strategically expanding the team
    • Ensure implementation of administrative processes and project management standards across the organization
    • Ensure compliance with Kenyan laws and regulations

Your qualifications & skills

  • Professional background
    • At least five years of senior-level experience in organizational management, managing teams of 5 people or more
    • A proven track-record in fundraising
    • University degree in a relevant field
    • At least one year work experience in Kenya or Sub-Saharan Africa
    • Experience in WASH and/or public health is an advantage
  • Personal characteristics
    • Ability to lead and to create a work environment in which team members can grow
    • Focused on achieving outcomes, not completing activities
    • A self-starter who thinks on her/his feet and doesn’t mind getting her/his hands dirty to get a job done
    • Used to performing in a fast-paced work environment

    • Willingness and ability to travel
