BACKGROUNDLa Convenci贸n relativa a los humedales es un tratado intergubernamental que proporciona el marco para la acci贸n nacional y la cooperaci贸n internacional para la conservaci贸n y el uso sostenible de la diversidad biol贸gica y los servicios de los humedales. Fue el primero de los acuerdos ambientales multilaterales mundiales modernos y sigue siendo el 煤nico dedicado a un ecosistema cr铆tico espec铆fico. La Secretar铆a de la Convenci贸n relativa a los humedales tiene su sede en Gland (Suiza), donde la Uni贸n Internacional para la Conservaci贸n de la Naturaleza (UICN) presta algunos servicios administrativos a la Secretar铆a de la Convenci贸n para el funcionamiento y la aplicaci贸n de la Convenci贸n. La Secretar铆a proporciona asesoramiento t茅cnico y normativo a las Partes Contratantes en el Convenio en la aplicaci贸n del Plan Estrat茅gico 2016-2024. El Caribe Insular es una de las regiones m谩s vulnerables del mundo en cuanto a la exposici贸n a los efectos del cambio clim谩tico y a los peligros naturales. A fin de apoyar a las Partes Contratantes en la mejora de la conservaci贸n y el uso racional de los humedales del Caribe, se ejecutar谩 el proyecto “Uso racional de los humedales del Caribe para la mitigaci贸n del cambio clim谩tico y la conservaci贸n de sus servicios ecosist茅micos” a fin de fortalecer la resiliencia y la adaptabilidad de los pa铆ses del Caribe al cambio clim谩tico. El proyecto incluye la evaluaci贸n de los servicios ecosist茅micos y la vulnerabilidad de los sitios Ramsar al cambio clim谩tico y su posterior monitoreo y creaci贸n de capacidad de todas las partes interesadas principales sobre los valores de los humedales costeros. Bajo la supervisi贸n del coordinador del proyecto, el oficial de servicios ecosist茅micos dirigir谩 el componente de las evaluaciones sobre el estado y los servicios ecosist茅micos de los sitios Ramsar del Caribe.JOB DESCRIPTIONThe ecosystem services officer will ensure compliance with project commitments, including delivery of quality reports and compliance with performance indicators on the component of assessment and ecosystem services of the project.

Scope of responsibilities

1. Lead the technical support on the component on the assessments on the status and ecosystem services of Caribbean Ramsar Sites according to the Convention guidelines and the outcomes of the climate change and ecosystem services consultancies.

2. Provide technical support on the organization of national and international workshops of the project on the assessment and ecosystem services of Ramsar Sites.

3. Provide technical support on side events in global forums according to the events schedule of the project.

4. Work with the governments in the participating countries in the implementation of the component on the assessments on the status and ecosystem services of the project.

5. Observe project management procedures/techniques in order to facilitate project implementation and ensure delivery of high quality outcomes in the component of the assessments on the status of Ramsar sites and ecosystem services.

6. Lead the preparation of dissemination materials (flyers, booklets and reports) on the component on the assessments on the status and ecosystem services of Caribbean Ramsar Sites according to the outputs and outcomes of the project.

7. Provide technical support to the design and development of knowledge products related to the component of ecosystem services.

8. Produce project technical progress reports in English and Spanish according to the outputs and the time frames of reporting on the component of ecosystem services for the project.

9. Report regularly to the supervisor on the progress of the implementation of the component of ecosystem services of the project.

10. Carry out other duties as required by the supervisor

REQUIREMENTS

鈥 Master鈥檚 Degree (or higher)/Academic level in natural resources management, climate change, conservation biology, environmental sciences/studies; environmental science; sustainable development or resilience studies)

鈥 Preferably, eight to ten years of experience in project management, ecosystem assessment, water resource management, sustainable development/natural resource management in the Latin American region or other developing countries with practical experience in sustainable development and ecosystem services approach.

鈥 Experience working with multisectorial and multistakeholder level (senior government officials, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and local communities

鈥 Excellent interpersonal skills and strong ability to work efficiently, and proactively as part of a small team, with respect for and sensitivity to multi-cultural and multi-stakeholder approaches;

鈥 Ability to work with an interdisciplinary and multicultural team

鈥 Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish

鈥 Problem solving, creativity, initiative and innovation

鈥 Ability for interpersonal relationships and team work

鈥 Facility to perform tasks in an organized manner and in adherence to internal policies and procedures

鈥 Applicants will need to demonstrate ability to work with persons from different cultural and professional backgrounds

鈥 Willingness to travel at national level and internationally, whenever required
