ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
Cumberland River Compact was founded in 1997 and is an IRS designated 501(c)(3) serving the states of Tennessee and Kentucky. We are committed to enhancing the health enjoyment of the Cumberland River and its tributaries through education, collaboration, and action. We believe that water quality and a healthy environment are fundamental to sustainable, strong local economies. Since our founding, we’ve worked cooperatively with local, state and federal agencies, farmers, businesses, technical professionals, local neighborhood groups, and other watershed stakeholders who share this belief. Through a strategy of Teach, Protect, Connect we ensure clean and abundant water resources that support life, recreation, and economic well-being throughout the basin.

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the executive director, the program manager is responsible for furthering the organization’s education mission through production of the Compact’s River Talks series, managing the Compact’s grant that funds work in Metro Nashville and leading the Green Ally Project. The program manager will plan and execute projects and must have a strong background in environmental issues and be able to provide subject matter and technical expertise in water quality and related issues. In addition to subject matter and technical expertise, the program manager should demonstrate experience in project research, planning and delivery and a proven ability to secure funding for environmental projects from a variety of sources including governmental agencies and public or private foundations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

LEADERSHIP
• Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive director
• Maintain a high level of subject matter expertise and advise the organization, as needed
• Maintain strong connections to the key stakeholders connected to the organization’s work and facilitate connections for the organization, as needed
• Foster collaboration and provide leadership among organizations working on same/similar initiatives within the watershed
• Educate the public on water quality issues within the Cumberland River Basin and empower them to care for the basin through their own individual activities
• Coordinate work with other program managers to ensure seamless integration of related work

FINANCE/RISK MANAGEMENT
• Develop budgets for programs and projects
• Secure appropriate insurance coverage for each project
• Track and record all program deliverables; provide financial reports to internal and external stakeholders
• Coordinate with executive director to ensure timely reimbursement for projects

PROGRAM PLANNING/MANAGEMENT/EVALUATION
• Responsible for end-to-end programming and execution of the Compact’s River Talks series (20-24 events per year). Tasks include, but are not limited to securing speakers, securing River Center location, marketing and promotion, planning catering, enabling on-line registration and on-site logistics the day of the event.
• Responsible for end-to-end execution of the Compact’s work with Metropolitan Government. Tasks are documented in the grant partnership agreement and include, but are not limited to, tree plantings, rain garden planning and installation, stream adoptions and implementation of the Green Alleys Program
• Responsible for end-to-end planning and execution of Waterfest- a community education special event. Tasks include, but are not limited to, securing permits and venues, securing insurance, arranging vendors, activities and caterers
• Ensure that programs reflect the priorities set forth in the strategic plan and further the organization’s mission
• Recruit and supervise volunteers needed to deliver programs
• Monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programs to ensure quality
• Evaluate programs for effectiveness and clearly understand/articulate the organization’s program outcomes and impact
• Conduct ongoing outreach with partner organizations and share best practices to further collaborative efforts

COMMUNICATIONS
•Provide content for the Compact’s website or social media, as needed
Give in-person presentations to share organization’s mission in the community

ADMINISTRATION
• Provide administrative and project support for other programs and initiatives, as needed.
• Provide basic office support, which includes, but is not limited to, answering phones, fielding public inquiries for information, as needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• BA or BS in related field, MA or MS desirable
• Minimum 1 year of experience at an environmental organization or other NGO
• Strong event planning/execution skills
• Proven ability to recruit and manage volunteers
• Subject matter expertise in water quality, watershed planning, mapping and general environmental issues
• Successful management, supervisory, program development and administrative experience, especially in outcome measurement and analyzing collected data
• Ability to research and procure funding for environmental programs/projects from a variety of sources including government funding and public/private foundations
• Proficient in Microsoft Office software, Adobe Suite, and Kindful
• Knowledge of native plants desirable
• Ability to lift, push, pull at least 40 lbs.
