Our collaborative research group is recruiting graduate students to work on a recently funded project examining microbial to stream network effects of temperature on stream carbon dynamics.  Three of the five groups involved are recruiting doctoral students to start in summer/fall 2017.  Project objectives are to understand and predict the consequences of climate warming for heterotrophic communities and effects on the fates of terrestrial organic carbon in streams. Experiments and data collection, which include laboratory studies, a paired-catchment whole-stream warming experiment, and an array of warmed streamside channels, will be used to inform a network model. Fieldwork will take place in the Southern Appalachians at the Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory, North Carolina. Students will be encouraged to engage in planned research and will also have opportunities to develop their own research questions under the overall theme of global change and stream carbon.  The following positions are available:

Qualified applicants would have significant research experience in aquatic systems and strong quantitative skills, with preference given to students with more extensive research experience, including completed Masters degrees. Interested applicants should send 1) a cover letter, 2) CV (including relevant coursework, previous research experience and GRE scores), 3) a statement of interest, and 4) names and contact information of 3 references to the investigator they are interested in working with by March 20, 2017.
